Serious Accident

A serious accident befell a man* named Michael Hurley engaged on the*" Manawatu railway works near Welling-' ton on Monday. A bag of powder containing some 151bs had been placed on the ground preparatory to its being used for blasting purposes, when it is believed that some of it rah out and formed a train. Hurley made a fuse as ' an experiment, and while alight he. threw it down, when it immediately i£— " nited tbe train, which m its turn fired the powder. The explosion which ena sued bfew the unfortunate man. some yards, and on being picked up it was found that hig hkir was burnt off, his face much scorched, while -part of the flesh was burnt off one of his arms.
