THE VICTORIAN LOAN. SIR JULIUS VOUEL. SERIOUS FIRE. (by electric telegraph. — copyright.) (retttee's telegrams.) Melbourne,. Feb. 12.It is understood that m view of more favorable indications of the London money market the Government will place the balance of the four million loan at an early date. It is expected that London financers will require that Victorian loans be limited for this year to £6,000,000. The Board appointed to conduct the trials of Westinghouse and Wood's automatic brakes; with a view to determine their relative efficiency, has re* ported m favor of the Westinofhouse as superior at all points. The Board nevertheless commends Wood's brake as more suitable to Victorian railways on account of its simplicity of design and stability of the various parts. It is understood here that Sir Julius Yogel has had an interview with Giles, the exp'orer, with a view to placing a large tract of country m the London market. A serious fire has occurred at Beech - worth, causing damage to the amount of LIOjOOO. Insurances amount to LBOOO,
