«*BY TELEGRAPH.) (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, Feb. 10. A lunatic named McFarlane escaped from the asylum to-day by breaking through the windows of bis room. .-..-.. < DtTNBDiN, Feb. 10. Messrs Fergnsson and W. Hume were to. day admitted to the Bar. A case was heard m the Supreme Court to«day of importance to patentees. The action was for damages for breach of patent, but the defence pleaded that the plaintiff patentee had worked his plan m his own workshop before he applied and obtained the patent for it, and the plaintiff practically admitted the plea was unanswerable by with* drawing his action. In the JEt.MV Court to»day, a publican sued a laborer for £3 on a promissory note for bottles of brandy and other, liquors supplied. The Resident Magistrate gave judgement for deten's dan t, remarking that he had no sympathy whatever for plaintiff,, who had allowed the laborer, with a wife and family to support, to incur debt for drink which he was not able to pay. It has been decided to wind up the Dunedin Deep Sea Fishing Company, which though only a few months' in operation, has lost £500. Greymouth, Feb. 10. Weather outside so rough last night that the St. Kilda cbuldnot be brought m till this morning, when she and the Wallabi both came m. A considerable rainfall took place up country, and the river is m fresh to-day. ! Auckland, Feb. 10. Dr : Philspn was. presented by the mayor, on behalf 'of the citizens, with an address and a gold watch of the* value of £100, and a purse of sovereigns containing £220, on his retirement from the Provincial Hospital. A silver cardcase was also presented to Mrs Philson. The New Zealand Timber Company has declared a dividend of 15 per cent.j £2000 carried to reserve, which is now standing at £10,000, and r tcfhew account over.. L2ooo. ,^__.
