Explanation Wanted.

I Some few days ag.j, Mr McLennan, of <^roua Do wns, called on us to know why some advertisements sent to the Standard had i ot been inserted. We assured him that no letter of instruction ha<* . been received. He next inquired how they could have found their way into the Manawatu Times, to which paper they bad not been sent. We asked ; him to send us, on his return home, tbe pres- copy of his original letter ofin--1 structions, which came to hand by Japt night's mail, together with a declaration ; by the station clerk, Mr James Campbell; certifying thai; tbe letter m question whs legibly and properly addnssed to the Manawatu Standard. Ho also iuformed Mr McLennan he could not have made any mistake, as being a comparative, stranger m the district he was not aware that there was such a paper.as.the Manawatu Times m existence, 'lhese are the bre facts, without comment of any kind. We desire to know m the first place, how a letter ad* dressed to the Manawatu Standard came into the possession of the Manawatu Times ; and m tl.e second place, how a letter s«o addressed was appropriated by the manager of the latter paper. X)n receiving replies to these queries, we m»y have a lew turther remarks to make on the suoject.
