It is now practically certain that the Volunteer corps will not collapse, though they will be largely composed of new and very young men. In the Divorce ' Court to-day decrees nisis were granted m the following cases : — Maynard v. Maynard and another (Grisbome), and Barber v. Bar* ber (Wellington). All the Wellington Volunteer Corps, with the exception of khe Engineers, have decided to serve tinder the new regulations. The mysterious disappearance is reported of a man named James McMahon, a bottlei j who lost his child while at the Druid's fete on Monday last, and the same night he went m search of it. Nothing hasbeen seen of him since, and it is feared that he has met with some fatality. The total amount of property-tax paid throughout the colony up to to-day amounts to ab/>ut £38,000.
