Numerous water-races for supplying motive power are being dried up, Auckland, This Day. At a meetiDg of the Union Sash and Door Factory Company a 20 por cent, dividend was declared, and £2500 carried to the reserve. : Napier, This Day. It is now practically certain that the Volunteer corps will not collapse, though they will be largely composed of new and very young men. One of the oldest settler's wife, Mrs Torr, of Petone, died to-day. She arrived m Wellington m 1840. Wellington, This Day. In the Divorce ' Court to-day decrees nisis were granted m the following cases : — Maynard v. Maynard and another (Grisbome), and Barber v. Bar* ber (Wellington). All the Wellington Volunteer Corps, with the exception of khe Engineers, have decided to serve tinder the new regulations. The mysterious disappearance is reported of a man named James McMahon, a bottlei j who lost his child while at the Druid's fete on Monday last, and the same night he went m search of it. Nothing hasbeen seen of him since, and it is feared that he has met with some fatality. The total amount of property-tax paid throughout the colony up to to-day amounts to ab/>ut £38,000.
