J Sydney, Jan. 13. An accident, which may yet bo attended by fatal consequences, and which will probably cost the Government a good rbuad sum' ot money "for com* pensatiun, &c.,. occurred on Thursday near Grong Grong, which is about 13 miles distant from Narrandera. It seems that when the train from Junee to Hayhad .gone about a ndile past Grong Grroag, the axle of a goods truck broke, causing the train to upset. There were a number of passengers in the train, and set en of them are reported to be TOverely injured. All the passengera were greatly shaken. On Saturday night the furniture emporium and workshops occupied by Mr. Lewis at Dubbo were burned to the ground. One of the children was rescued with difficulty by its mother and has since died. Mrs. Lewis is dangerously ill, having been severely burned. The loss is estimated at about £4000. On Sunday afternoon three girls, named Sarah Gray^ Martha Callaghan, and Mary Callaghan, whose ages werd -between 10 and' 14, were drowned whilst bathing in- the ' Tuross Uiver, afr Cornering. The, tide carried Sarah Gray and Mary Callaghan out of their depth, and Martha. Callagban lost her life in trying to save theirs. The threebodies were recovered about 20 minutes after the alarm was raised, but all efforts at resuscitation proved unavailing. ,The "Salvation Army," consistingof its capcain a " captainess/' lieutenant; and trumpeter, have .been parading Some of the principle streets of the city ye>tejday .wfthout let, or. .' hindrance, although .; attended by ragamuffins and larrikins whose conduct: .was most 'disgraceful; The. other evening a young lady was rash enough to attempt to cross alone the Eveleigh paddocks between Newton and Redfern, when she was waylaid by a number of youthful larrikins, who. relieved' her of a large quantity of jewellery estimated to be wortL nearly £.0. '. . The Kembla, steamer has arrived at Newcastle considerably damaged, having beea run into by a steamer, at present unknown, which made off immediately , after the collision. A grear fire* took place ,on Sunday m irniag, at 3 o'clock, destroying Bar« ton "and Goldsmith's store aid offices at Cobar. All the stock therein was totally destroyed. The estimated loss is £12,000.^
