A Missing Vessel.
; (by telegraph.) press association.) ' Auckland, January 19. Fears are entertained for the safety of the three-masted schooner Red Coat, reported as overdue at Levuka. Recently a lite«buoy marked "Taviona Auckland," was found near the Fly River, New Guinsa, and it is thought this may have belonged to the Red Coat, as both that schooner and the Taviona belong to the same firm ; while ! upon the arrival of the surveying schooner Lark, this morning, is was stated that a sunken vessel was observed m that vicinity dnrin^ her cruise. It is therefore feared that the Red Coat crew may have been set upon by the natives, and the vessel plundered and sunk. After leaving Auckland, the Red Coat changed nearly ihe whole of her crew, while Captain Waite, who took her home; died shortly a f ter reaching the islands, so that most probably the vessel was wholly manned by slanders.
