A terrible catastrophe has occurred at Berditchev, a town of southern Russia m the Province of Kiev, during a , crowded performance at a circus m that town. The fire broke out and spread rapidly, and a general rush from the 1 interior of the circus ensued. The exists were blocked, and many persons were trampled to death m their efforts to escape. It is estimated that fully 300 persons have perished. The catastrophe has created a great sensation. Melbourne, Jan. 15. The cricket match between the Australian learn and a local eighteen was concluded to-day at Ballarat. The Australians won the match m one innings, with 100 runs to s are.
