Municipal Frauds.

(united press association.) Christohurce, Jan. 13. At a special meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council held this morning the finance committee, who have been mak« ing a special audit of the municipal accounts reported that three sets of rate books, and the balance sheets for the year 1877, were all missing, and that they could not complete their work, as the books and papers of the counci were m a most disgraceful state. When they found that this state of things was m existence, they had summoned the Mayor, who had immediately suspended the Clerk, and taken charge of the office. They also reported that as far as they could ascertain, there was a deficiency of a Bum of £550, extending over a period of four years. It was also roported that the Town Clerk, C 4E. Dudley, after being suspended by the Mayor, had sent m his resignation.
