Ministers at Opunake.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Opunake, Jan. 13. Mr Whitaker and Major Atkinson arrived yesterday afternoon. Mr. Whitaker was accompanied by his two daughters and his private secretary. Ministers had a good look at the bay and township daring the afternoon In the evening a large deputation waited upon them and urged a large number of matters. The Premier pro* raised to give the matters favourable consideration on his return to Wellington, and baid no time would be lost m pushing ahead with the native reserves Sir W. Fox, who came with him by the steamer from Auckland, having stated that he would be ready to hand over the reserves to Mr. Mackay m a few weeks. He held out no promise of harbour endowments. The loans upon these endowments, scattered through* out the length <md breadth of the country, were a great bar to settlement and he would far rather grant a sura of money toward improving the harbour. The deputation said they would prefer money if it could be given. The Premier expressed a very favourable opinion of the bay. The Ministerial party left for Hawera this morning.
