LATE CABLE MESSAGES.
(by electric telbgutaph. — copyright.) (eeutee's telegrams.) London, January 13. The Duchess of Connaue;ht gave birth to a son to-day. A plot to assassinate the chief police officer at Dublin has been discovered. Twenty persons charged with complicity m the conspiracy have been arrested. The prisoners were brought up at the Dublin Police Court to day and remanded. Several of them are suspected of being concerned m the Phoenix Park and other murders. The homeward mails, via San Fran* cisco, which left Auckland on the sth i December, were delivered here to-day. Per Merchant Shipping and Under* writers Association : — The ship Will Deer, from Glasgow to New Zealand, with 300 immigrants on board, has gone ashore on the North Rock, and is ex« pec ted she will become a total wreck.
