t'BY TELEGRAPH.) (UKITBD PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Chbistchurch, Jan. 13. Numerous rumours are afloat regard ing the Selwyn seat m the House of Representatives. First, that Sir John Hall has been requested to obtain leave of absence instead of vacating the seat, but has declined ; that further measures are being adopted to induce him to change his mind ; that should he not do so, the prominent Government men will support Mr E. J. Lee, on whose behalf canvassing is now going on ; that Mr E. Wakefield, of Timaru, was asked to come forward as a Government candidate, bub declined ; that the Hon. E. Richardson has been asked to offer himself as an Opposition candidate, I and trill probably consent.
