An Illustrious Visitor.
Tawhiao, the Maori King, is at Murimotu on his way to Wanga^hu. He is coming by way of Maungakaretu (Hales 7 Tract) to Matatera m a few days, when he will go to Aperahama Taipae's kainga, hence to Awa Huri and the Native settlements m the Manawatu District. He also intends to visit Wairarapa. Wanganui is not to have the honor of a visit from His Majesty. The Wangaehu Natives have been busy catching eels and collecting food for their distinguished visitor for some time back, and intend to give him a grand reception. It is nob likely that many of the Wanganui Natives I will attend the meeting at Wangaehu, as they understood that he was to come down the river and visit them at their principal settlements. Mete Kingi is going, as he invariably does to all large meetings. The visit of Tawhiao will be quite an important event, and it will be well if it has the effect of bringing about a good understanding between the two races. The Wanganui Herald thinks it would be exceedingly appro* priate if the Mayor And Council were to follow the example of Auckland and send out an invitation to Tawhiao. We want to break down barriers, and it would only show a patriotic spirit on the part of the Municipal Council to come forward m a similar way.
