The Local Bodies.
THE WORKING OFTHF ROADS AND BRIDGES ACT.
[Post] An earnest effort is apparently being made by the various local bodies to take advantage of the facilities offered by the Roads and Bridges Construction Act of last session. About 100 applications have already been received, but we understand that many fail to comply with the reqniremeats of the Act, and m other enses so much confusion and complication has been — designedly or not — introduced into the particulars with which the applications are supported that it will be difficult to ascertain for some little time how many of the claims can legally be entertained. It is estimated so far that some 86 or 87 of the applications are m due and proper form, and that the sum required to satisty them w'll we about £680,000 or perhapa £700,000. It will probably take some weeks to go through the plans, specifications, &c, m order to ascertain what respective sums the various applicant local bodies are entitled to receive.
