The heaviest floods known for five yei.rs occurred at Dargaville. Sixteen hundr. id logs of the Sash and Door Company gat adrift, but they were ultimately secured . New Plymouth, June 9. A man named George Brackenshirn, who was accidentally rnn over by the train at Normanby yesterday, and was brought into town last night, had hi i right leg amputated, but he graduall y sank, dying at half past twelve to-day. Invercargill, June 9. Joseph Allen, landlord of the Great Western Hotel, Riverton, slipped in getting on the platform of a railway carriage aud broke both legs, and received internal injuries. He has since died. News brought by the cutter Jane is that the missing cutter Hannah is a total wreck in Broad Bay, Stewart’s Island. 1 The two men were rescued after enduring much hardship. The vessel missed stays and was beached. At a meeting to-day of the promoters of a company for exporting frozen meat, the prospectus submitted was adopted and provisional directors appointed. The capital will bo £IO,OOO, iu 2000 shares of £5 each.
Dunedin, June 7.
At a meeting of the committee of the Moat Refrigerating Company it was stated that 1200 of the 4000 shares in the company had already been taken up. The machinery will be ordered from Home directly the share list is sufficiently complete.
Timaru, June 8.
A meeting of the unemployed was held on the breakwater this morning. About 160 persons were present. The immigration policy, the practice of seuding large sums of money out of the country, aud the large land-holders, were all alike condemned. A committee was formed to interview the Mayor and Mr Turnbull, the member for the district, to hurry on the laying of the water-pipes, now lying idle, and thus absorb the surplus labor.
