SIR G. COLLEY'S GRAVE.
Lady Colley took with her from M'aritzburg a headstone for the grave of her husband. It is saicl ‘ it is be tutiful in its simplicity, but it is one tht it we trust will be supplemented by a memorial from Natal in memory of the bravo gentleman who so ably direct ed her affairs ” It is a plain cross aboi it three feet from the low pedestal on v rhich it is placed, and with a single kerb stone to enclose the grave. There is no ornamentation whatever—even the p lain black lettering is but what the ht imblest of the community would ample y. The iollowing is the inscription -In memory of dir George I orueroy Gilley, 1v.C5.1., C. 8., C.M.G., H.M. Commissioner for S.E. Affnca, Maior General commanding forces, born Ist November, 1835, killed in action c n the Amajuba Mountain, Sun. day, 2< , th February, *BBI. On the right side are the words-“ This cross is placed t here by his wife,’ and on the left side of the stone — <c Qjj ; f or thy voice to eoothe and bless. What h ope of answer or redress, Bshind the veil, behind the veil I A Natal paper says “We understand that the body of onr late lamented Governor will be allowed to remain where it now lies, it having been his wish that, should it be his late to die on the bsst.le-field, he should be buried where he fel i.”
