The Marlborough Press. SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 1860.
We have received Nelson papers to the 4th instant, which contain no news of great importance from Taranaki. It will be seen from extracts in another column that Major-General Pratt, C. 8., had left Melbourne for Taranaki, where he was daily expected. Warm expressions of sympathy were made in Melbourne, and it was stated that 1,000 volunteers could he raised there ready for service in New Zealand if required. We trust the services of such gallant fellows will not be needed ; and hope to see the time when every province will possess a volunteer corps of its own, ready to defend itself or assist its neighbour.
We have not been able to find space for the Alteration of Roads Rill in this issue, but will publish it in our next.
