The Marlborough Press. SATURDAY, MAY 12, 1860.

The Airedale arrived in Nelson on Friday night (May 4th), with very little news from Taranaki. We have not yet received our files of papers, but have been kindly furnished with the following information : —The steamship Victoria, from Hobart Town, had landed 150 troops at Taranaki. The Waikatos had not declared in favour of W. King, but had held meetings and were inclined to lean towards him. The troops were recalled when in sight of King’s stronghold, and embarked on board ship. There is no reason given for this movement, and all kinds of rumours are afloat. It is generally thought that the Governor is desirous of seeing what he has to contend against, and then strike the blow. W. King said that he would not be the first to commence anew, but was quite prepared to give battle whenever the pakeha was ready. General excitement prevailed in New Plymouth and Nelson.
