AWATERE. The nomination for this district took place at the house of Mr. P. M'Rae, Blarich, Awatere, on Monday, the 16th instant, when Mr. Charles * Elliott, printer, of Nelson, w T as proposed by Mr. Mowatt, and seconded by Mr. H. Williams. No other candidate being proposed, Mr. C. Elliott was declared duly elected. PICTON. The nomination took place at the house of Mt. Downes yesterday, when Mr. Arthur Penrose Seymour was proposed by Mr. Strachan and seconded by Mr. Bevan. There being no other candidate, Mr. Seymour was declared to be duly elected,

Nelson Races. —As want of space prevents our giving to-day a full report of our Race Meeting, which has taken place this week, vre shall only briefly give the names of the winning horses, and furnish a complete report of the running in our next. On Wednesday, the second day, the. Maiden Plate was won by Fidget, beating Cressida; the Handicap Sweepstakes was taken by Deception, beating Io and Ultima; and the Scurry by Ada, beating Fidget. On Thursday, Deception won the Town Plate, beating Ultima and Io; Ada the Welter Stakes, beating Blanche; Mr. Godfrey’s black mare the Selling Stakes, beating Wild Irish Girl; Ultima the Consolation, beating Alma; and Deception the Forced Handicap, beating Io and Ultima. Several matches were run during the intervals, and the sport on the last two days was a decided improvement on that of the first. Examiner, April 14th.
