An unfortunate accident happened to our Resident Magistrate, & L. Muller, Esq., in the beginning of the week, whilst proceeding to the Awatere in the capacity of Returning Officer for that district. A horse proceeding along the road in front of him kick<s him on the leg, inflicting a severe flesh , wound. Although Dr. Muller has been laid up with the accident, we are happy to say that he is fast recovering, and will be able to resume his public duties in a few days. From this occurrence the Elections for ■Awatere and Picton have been postponed to the days mentioned in advertisements that appear in our columns this week. From the latest New Zealand Gazettes we gather the followings His Excellency tbe Governor has been pleased to direct, that the Township in the Province of Marlborough, heretofore known as Beaver, be for the future named Blenheim, and to be referred to accordingly in all official documents. (Signed) E. W. Stafford. By proclamation of;;thc Governor no arms, gunpowder, or other warlike stores shall be imported without a license from the Commissioners of Customs. The carriage, or removal coastwise of all arms, ammunition,' and warlike stores, except such as belong, to her Majesty, is prohibited. It is provided for Volunteer Corps, that every member-shall take the-ioath of. allegiance, and sign a declaration that-he will serve for twelve months;, but .should he, within that time, be going to reside out of the district, he shall receive a discharge.-• ;; Arms, accoutrements, and practice ammunition will be issued under regulations by the Governm No volunteer shall be; compelled to attend for training more than. 168 hours in any one year. Unsatisfactory absence from training shall incur a forfeit not exceeding £1 per day. Injury to arms, Accoutrements, Ac., shall be made good. ...- • - ~ , . , . None of the militia shall be required to go. beyond their own district, except only such as shall volunteer for service out of the same..., Every militiaman injured on. actual service shall receive a pension so long, as he shall be so disabled, similar to that accorded to the Queen's troops. , „ .
