LOCAL NEWS.
Provincial Council. —A building is now in course of erection to be in readiness for the meeting of the Members of the Council, so that as soon as the writs arrive, and the elections have taken place, there will be nothing to prevent the immediate opening of the first session of the Marlborough Provincial Council. Land Office.— The old Court House is to be used for the Land Office of this province, which will be opened on Monday next, as will be seen by an advertisement in this week’s issue. Sporting. —On the second day of the late Liverpool Meeting (January 28), Strop won the M. P.’s Purse, beating Gratis, from whom he received Tibs. On the same day, at even weights, Strop was beaten by Gratis in the Welter Race. The Railway Plate was won by Eureka, beating Ackbar and two others.— Nelson Examiner.
New Zealand Wool. —From the Home News, December 19, we learn that the number of bales of wool imported from New Zealand in all 1.858 was 10,792; up to December 1, 1859, 13,254; and the total sales of 1859 were 15,809 bales.
