RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Wednesday, January 4, 18G0. [Before S. L. Muller, Esq., R.M.] William Smith, shearer, was brought up on a charge of assaulting Mr. Ralston, of the Marlborough Hotel. It appears that some dispute arose between complainant and prisoner as to the terms of settlement of a debt, Avhich prisoner and another person had agreed to pay on behalf of a third party, imprisoned at the suit of Mr. Ralston. iVfeatu.. v.’
Violent language was used by both parties, and prisoner attempted to strike the complainant, as appeared by the statement of Serjeant-Major M'Artney, who ultimately took the prisonev to. the lock-up. His Worship dismissed the prisoner, by payment of the costs, considering that having been locked up all night was sufficient punishment for the offence.
