SOCIAL AND DANCE.

The social and dance in aid of the funds of the Motueka Cricket Club held m the Institute Hall last Wednesday night was a great success, due no doubt to the energy displayed bv the Honorary Secretary, Mr Herbert Boyce, and the Committee, and to the suppoit libe 1 ally accorded by the public. Under the direction of Mr Jenkins, assisted by Messrs F. Meade, A. Talbot and G. Roundy, the interior of tne hall was tastefully decorated with evergreens, flags, club colors,- etc., the effect being pleasing to the eye. The floor was in excellent condition, dancing to the music of the String Band [wno kindly gave their services] and the extras supplied by Miss H. Ryder, Messrs A. I. Manoy and R. Lynch! being a pleasure. During the dancer some excellent songs were given bv Miss M. Brougham, Messrs Lane [2] and J. King; recitation by Mr H. Everett ; duec, violin and piano by Misses H. Crichton and E. Duncan. The feature of the evening was the presentation of trophies, won during the past season, by the Vice President, Mr G. W. Jenkins, who made a neat and happy speech, with appropriate references to each trophy competed for. The winners were Messrs F. Meade, L. Boyes, C. G. Boyce, G. Bound y and’ R. Simpson,* tne doners being Messrs J. B. Jordan, Brown and Kerr, A. Manov Bert Tasker and Co., W. Coppins, w! Lock and T. D. Goodman fNgatimoti). Liquid and solid refreshments.procured for the occasion, and supplemented by gifts from ladies in Motueka were handed round during the evening and much appreciated by those present. Taken altogether the entertainment provided by the Committee was most acceptable, and if they have a mind to repeat the experiment at a later date they may count upon considerable patronage by the public.
