Last Friday’s New Zealand Times says : —Yesterday was an exceedingly busy day in the port. In addition to five Home boats discharging, there were six large coasters, one intercolonial vessel, and ten smaller boats. The aggregate net tonnage at the wharves was 31,081 tons. The loading and discharging of cargo was considerably retarded in some instances owing to there being an insufficient number o£ wharf labourers to meet the unusual demand. This is how a reporter on a Fijian journal described the arrival of the New Zealand parliamentary party at Suva on the steamship Mapourika : “The Mapourika arrived here on Tuesday morning, and was a great disappointment.
