A case of shocking brutality was in vestigated recently at the London County Sessions, when James Thomas, 33, labourer, pleaded "Guilty" to wounding his wife.—Counsel said that as a result of the prisoner's violence in striking her in the eye his wife's sight had been destroyed.—The prosecutrix presented a. pitiful appearance when led into court, where she stood listening to the recital of her husband's misdeeds, crying bitterly.—A detective said that Thomas entered the army in 1891, and served for three years with the colours and nine years on the reserve. Their four children .vere in the workhouse.—Sentence of 21 months' hard labour was passed.
