The hop harvest in Tasmania has been good, despite heavy gales and rain in the Derwent Valley, the yield averaging about llewt to the acre, and in one instance 40cwt. A remarkable occurrence has taken place on the farm of Mr H. Greensmith, of Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, a ewe giving birth to a fine lamb on *YVednesday, another on Thursday, and a third on Friday. The ewe and the three lambs are all doing well. A remarkably fine catch of fish was made by the trawler Pania on Friday in Cook Strait. The vessel landed 2036 whario, 700 flounders and soles, and 30 hake in excellent condition. An enthusiastic trooper, belonging to the Ashburton Mounted Rifles, rode 43 miles to attend a church parade on Sunday, and 43 back again, making 86 altogether. The trooper came from near Lake Coleridge, and started from his destination at day-break. The Melbourne unemployed are in desperate straits, and are threatening to have recourse to rioting.
