MOTUEKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday evening, His Worship the Mayor in the chair and Crs Ryder, Satherley, Simpson, Moffatt, Grooby and Thorp being presert. ’ Minutes of previous meeting read and adopted. The following accounts were passed for payment: —Nelson Tinware Company 15s, 1 own Clerk Accident Insurance Co’ 19s. Letter from the Accident Insurance Co. re claims for Workers Compensation. Resolved, to comply with the altered condi-
tions. His Worship read a circular received from Lieut. Col. Wolfe soliciting subscriptions towards the erection of a tower, baptistry and memoral plates at Bloemfontein to the memory 7 of those who had died in the Orange River Colony. The Mayor also explained that he had been unable to hold a public meeting to consider the circular. letter from Mrs Seddon re Soldier’s Guild, 011 account of the hall being engaged It was agreed that both circulars should be read and discussed at the meeting to be called. 0
Resolved on the motion of Cr Simpson, seconded by Cr Grooby, That the rate to be struck for the ensuing y 7 ear be one penny 7, same as last year. It was decided to invite applications for the position of Town Clerk at a salary of per annum, to be considered at next meeting. An amendment by the Mayor seconded by Cr J/offatt, That the salary be was lost. J
It was resolved that the Ranger’s attention be called to the stray 7 cattle on the roads and that he be requested to be present at the jiext meeting of the Council. I'lre Town Clerk was instructed to procure £>?> worth of poisoned wheat. On tne motion of Cr Thorp, seconded by Cr Simpson, it was resolved that Mr Knapp’s plan of requirements for the stonebreaker be approved of, and that the new Council be requested to favorably consider same.
Resolved, that the new footpath be finished as soon as possible ; also that the metal from Wallis’ be carted south of Wildman s road ;also that certain residents be sued for not removing briars. Proposed by Cr Thorp, seconded by Cr Simpson and carried, That Messrs Holyoake and Goodman be requested to remove the planks Irom the crossings in front of their buildings, and that if they decline to do so, the dayunen be instructed to remove them ; also that the overseer inspect the crossings. His Worship the Mayor’s honorarium was passed for pay 7 ment and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to MrWratt for the satisfactory manner in which he had conducted the business of the Council during the past year, the motion being supported by Crs Simpson, Grooby and Moffatt, a hope being expressed that he would fill the position for another term. This concluded the business.
