BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Motueka Borough Council was held on Tssesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. S. Wratt), Crs Ryder, Snappy Satherley, Edwards, Simpson, Groraby r Trewavas. Thorp, and Moffatt.
Minutes e/f previous meeting read and adopted. The following accounts were passed for payment: G. Chapman 395, B >v« s 32s 6d, King 31s 6d, Nelson City Council £5 7s 3d. Town Clerk ££ 3 postage 20s, Accident -Insurance Co., .£3 9s, "E. Goodman 40s. A pamphlet was received from the Health Department, Wellington, set ting forth the chief features of the Public Health Act, 1900.
Letter received from the Secretary Motueka Wharf stating that the Council's resolution re elective Board would be considered at its next meeting.
Miss Fearori applied for permission to remove two trees in the avenue, which prevented the wind operating the windmill on her prop sity. Resolved, on the motion of Or Kvder, seconded by Cr Simpson, That permission be given.
The Mayor's action in giving permission to Miss Fearon to lay a pipe across Fearon street in order to allow of the stock being watered, was c infirmed.
Messrs Pitt and Moore wrote re right of waj between Messrs "Everett and Flowerday's properties in High Street. Permission given to construct the right of way, the deed forwarded to be endorsed by the Clerk on behalf of the Council.
His Worship the Mayor brought nnder the notice of the Council a letter he had received from Cr Harley, of Nelson, giving information as to the the cost of asphalting the footpath in High Street. A short discussion took place on the question and it was eventually resolved that the Mayor convey the thanks of the Council to Mr Harley for tre information he so kindly supplied.
A letter was received from >(r H. A. Tarrant, resigning his position as Town Clerk to take effect three months from date.
Proposed by Cr Thorp, seconded by Cr Moffatt and carried, That the resignation be accepted with regret. On the motion of Cr Moffatt, seconded by Cr Simpson, His Worship was requested to convene a meeting, ladies to be specially invited, for the purpose of establishing a local branch of the Soldier's Guild, established for the purpose of looking after the graves of those who fell in S >uth Africa.
Cr KLnapp made a brief statement with regard to the stonebreaker. In company with anexpeithe had gone into the question of cost of labor saving appliances etc, for the machine, and they baa put the cost down at about £4:5. Nothing so far had been done.
After considerable discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Cr Simpson, that the Town Clerk be authorised to get stones broken by hand, in certain ) >calities, at a cost not exceeding is per yard. It was also resolved, on the motion of Cr Thorp, seconded by the" Mayor, That Cr ELnapp be empowered to prepare plans and specifications of the gear required f<ur the stone breaker ; to repot t at the special meeting to be held on the 25th instant. This concluded the business.
