THE LICENSING POLL.
The last Government Gazette to hand publishes the corrected returns in regard to the recent Local Option Poll! From that return we find that the number of persons on tbe electoral rolls of the colony was 495,789, but o 12,655 of the total voted, and voted as follows - For No License .. 151,524 For Continuance . . 148,449 For Reduction . . 132,240 It is significant that the number of tnose voting ’‘no license” exceeded the “liquor vote” by 3075 votes, and is little short of an absolute majority of the number voted. In the 68 districts 25 voted a continuance of the trade as at present, 27 districts catried no proposal, 9 carried reduction and 7 prohibition. In one of the latter—Newtown —the result has been upset.
