CRICKET.
A match,, which excited a considerable amount of interest, took place last Saturday, when a team selected from the employes at Currin’s Mill met a Brooklyn eleven on the local cricket ground. The conditions were that the defeated players should entertain both teams to a dinner to be provided at tne Post Office Hotel and generally to do the amiable during the day. The day was a fine one for cricket, but the pitch was treacherous and not favorable to good play. The mill team, captained by W. R. Fowler, having won the toss, elected to bat, and succeeded in making a score of 45, the top scoie being that of E. Hunt. Brooklyn, captained by A. Askew, followed the oinnings closing for 40, E. White horn putting up 8 tuns. In the second innings the mill team scored 42, H. Currin registering 23. With 48 runs to win, the Brooklyn cricketers succeeded in securing them with the loss ot 4 wickets, A. Duncan, not out scoring 18. The Brooklyn players thus won the match with six wickets to spare. The lunch, a capital one, was partaken of about one o’clock, amidst the utmost good feeling, especi - ally as it was then a moot point which team would have to find the shekels.
