He commenced to do so in the usual drawling mode of the school. He had not proceeded far when his mother administered a sharp buffet on the ear, with the exclamation . "Ye scoonral ! How daur ye read a newspaper wi' the Bible twang !"
Some amusement has been caused in Wellington by the fact that the city dog catcher captured a dog belonging to the Premier's household, with a last year's collar on its neck. A man intervened and demanded that the dog should be given up. The dog catcher, however, stuck to his catch, and told the man he would take the dog if it belonged to the Governor himself. The necessity for further proceedings was obviated by the payment of the tax.
