STOCK SALES. Christchurch, February 4. Fat cattle —175 head of the average range of quality, were yarded. The demand was irregular, but prices on the average were unchanged, except' for cow beef which was slightly easier. Steers £6 17s 6d to £ll 12s 6d ; heif ers £5 17s 6d to £8 6s ; cows £5 10s to £9 2s 6d ; good beef 24s to 26s per 1001 b ; cow beef 225. Fat sheep—The entry was good .in number and quality, but there was a very slow sale, several exporters being merely onlookers. All the sheep of good quality, however brought previous week’s values, but old ewes were decidedly lower. Freezing wefcheis 16s. to 19 s 7d 7 maiden ewes 15s. to 17s 9d, prime heavy ewes 16s to 19s, ordinary to good 12s 6d to 15s, aged from H)s Sd.
Fat. lambs- —An entry of, 2450 met a
very sluggish demand, but prices were I not quotably lower except for secondary and graziers’lots. Freezers 12s 6d to 14s 8d ; butchers’ and graziers’ descriptions 10s to 12s. 1 Pigs—There was a small entry and a good demand, prices advancing on previous week’s rates. Baeoners 45s to 54s ; porkers 30s to 42s 6d, stores -22 s 6d to 355, small stores 17s to 21s, suckers and weaners 14s to 16s. Per ( lb porkers realised 5d to 6d and good baeoners averaged sd.
Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in. conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams, report on their sale at Johnsonville on Tuesday last as follows :—We hadan average yarding ’of prime bullocks, for which bidding was keen, beef making 26s to 27s per 1001 b. We quote — Prime heavy weight, £ll 17s 6d to £l2 ; others, £lO to £lO 17s 6d . smaller sorts, L 9 10s to LlO 15s. A small yarding of sheep sold freely. Light wethers, 12s 3d to 13s 2d ; good ewes, 11s 9d to 13s 9d ; others, 9s 9A to 10s* lOd. A line of good lambs was passed in ; others made 8s to 9s Id. No pigs were yarded.
