CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor

Sir : For about sixty years Motueka has been “going rather slow,” but at present she seems to have a healthy little boom on,, and it behoves the citizens to cast around for material to keep the progressive movement alive. A suggestion made by a correspondent in your columns to the effect that now is sin opportune time for the people to consider the project of reclaiming the Moutere mud flat, I consider is a very good one. It has been said that an area approaching 3000 acres might be reclaimed there ; but if only 1000 acres of good land could be reclaimed so near the Borough it would be of im - mense advantage to the district as such land is generally excellent for grazing and dai*ying purposes. Then I don’t see why Motueka could not run a woollen and clothing factory,, and a boot factory 7 , and later on, when we get a little more back country opened up, she might have a freezing works of her own.

There is another matter I would like to impress on the minds of the people of the Borough, although it might be considered more of si conservative than of a progressive natuie—it is to keep a watchful eye to the river, to have all noxious growths cleared from its course, and the weak places in the bank fortified.

feo, with a stretch of rich clover paddocks reaching from My'ers’ corner out towards the Bluffs and filled with dairy cows and the Moutere hills all along the borders of it built on by beautiful suburban residences, hsilf a dozen more factories booming in the district, an improved harbour and the river belmving itself, I would not mind prophesying that Motueka will have an alright time in front of her. I am, etc., Riwaka.
