Christchurch, Dec 19. The following are current prices paid to farmers,, f.0.b., Lyttelton, and free ef commission,, except where otherwise specified : Wheat : Hunter’s, and Tuscan 4s lid to ss, Pearl 4s lid to 5s at country stations. Oats.—Long feed 2s 6dto 2s 7d ; short feed 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; milling Canadians 2s 8d to 2s 9d at country stations. Flour (millers’ quotations): Roller .£l3. Pollard : £7 Os ton. Bran : £7 Os. Oatmeal : ,£l4 10s f.o.b. Oatsheaf chaff : 85s to 87s 6d at country stations. Potatoes : Derwents, [nominal] L 6 at country stations. STOCK SALES. Christchurch, December 17. At the Addington market to-day there were good entries and an average a ttendance. Fat cattle —265 were yai-ded, nearly all of good to prime quality and a few extra heavy bullocks. Competition was easier all round, and a drop of from 3s to 4s per 1001 b has to be re corded, best beef making to 31s and other sorts to 28s per 1001 b. Steers L 8 10s to Ll-3 12s 6d, heifers L 6 10s to LlO 12s 6d, cows L 5 12s 6d to LlO I 15s. | Store cattle -A; good demand existed for all classes, and a clearance was effected at the following prices :—Yearlong 27s to 36s 6d, fifteen to eighteen-.-''month old cattle L2 8s to L 3 9s 6d, two-year old steers, L 4 1 8s 6d to L 5 12s 6d, ditto heifers L 4 10s, two and a half to three year old steers L 6 10s, three-year old heifers L 5 17s 6d, dry 35s to L 4 10s. Dairy cows—A medium entry sold at L 4 5s to L 8 10s, arid up to LlO. Fat sheep —A large entry, the greater portion being fat crossbred ewes, with a fair yarding of good to prime freezing wethers, but many pens would be more in place in the store pens. A go )d demand existed for all prim,e freezers, both wethers and ewes, but butchers’ ewes, except for the best, bad an easier tone. Prime freezing wethers, shorn, 18s 7d to 20s 6d, a few extra heavy wethers 24s 6d to 295, lighter weights 16s 6d to 17s 9d, mixed sexes 16s 7d to 19s 6d, freezing “quality ewes, best kinds -Ifis Id to cr , sd, others 14s to 15s 9J butchers’ ewes, best I3s to 17s Bd, extra heavy to 19s 4d, inferior 9s to 11s 6d. Fat lambs —1704 penned. There was a keen demand, and prices gene rail} 7 were a shade firmer. Prime freezers 15s to 16s 9d, lighter 13s 4d to 14s 6d butchers’ best 15s to 16s lOd, others 11s 9d to 14s 6d. Store sheep —53000 penned. A strong demand existed. Shorn crossbred wethers, 12s 8d to 14s lOd, hog(shorn) 12s 9d to 13s, woolly ditto 15s 2d. crossbred ewes and lambs 9s to 12^ Pigs —There was a fair inquiry, with a keen demand fpr porkers and stores, baconers making 45s to 545, equal to about to 4|d per lb, porkers 30s to 40s, equal to fully 5d to 6d per lb ; large stores, 20s to 30s ; weaners, 15s to 19s ; suckers, 10s to 14s 6d. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in con junction with Messrs Abraham and Williams,, report, on, their sale
follows :—A full entry of bullocks of good quality were yarded. Bidding was irregular. We quote beef at 28s ; best bullocks £lO 12s 6d ; others, <£lo to .£lO 10s, light sorts .£9 to «£9 17s 6d, cows £0 12s 6d. Sheep in small numbers consisted of some fine ewes, which sold freely ; otnersat last week’s rates. Prime ewes 16s 5d to 16s lid, others 14s to 15s, light 11s to 12s fid. A big yarding of lambs, none of very good quality, sales were dull. Best lambs 10s, others 9s, stores 4.
