The s.s Manaroa, Captain Allman, arrived at the wharf this morning from Wellington direct, this being her first trip under contract with the New Zealand Government. She sails from here: by to--night's tide. In future the Manaroa will leave Wellington every Monday at 4 p.m for Motueka direct; returning from here every Tuesday at noon, or as soon afterwards as the tide will permit.
Trooper HTfrry Park, who went Home with the Coronation Contingent, returned to Motueka last Saturday afternoon. Trooper Park, who was welcomed by a number of friends is in the best of health and has thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We are sorry to hear that Mr C. Remnant, junior, of Pangatotara, had the misfortune to lose two working bullocks last week.
Mr 1 nspector Harkness is at present in Motueka for the purpose of inspecting the scholars at the Whakarewa O 'Messr^'RanEin "and ladWsrm'forniedj us this morning that they have defi-f niteiy decided to start a butter factory in Motueka, with creameriesat Riwaka and Ngatimoti. Mr E. W. Thorp’£> nlantjind buildings have been secured j -—'The Cricket Club desires to acknowledge the receipt of 2s 6d from Mr Peter Harris, of Nelson, as a donation to the Club’s funds.
We have had an opportunity of inspecting the. banner procured by the Motueka Cricket Association for competition between the various cricket clubs throughoutthe district. Although ordered some considerable • time ago, has only just come to hand. The banner, which was designed by Mr G. W\ Jenkins, is a handsome one, the workmanship and make up entrusted to the ladies of the Nelson Convent, being excellent. As it is to be presented at the social to be held on Monday evening next, the public will have an opportunity of inspecting it. Mr Horatio Everett, being the only candidate nominated for the Motueka Riding of the Waimea County Council' has been declared duly elected. For the Moutere Riding, Messrs Beuke and T. Hewetson are candidates.
Whilst in Nelson lately. Mr John A. Findlay, Manager of the Motueka Fruitgrowers’ Co-operative Society, purchased an engine and boiler, 18 h.p., for the company, which was brought over to Motueka to-day. Messrs H. A. Tarrant and A. R. Edwards proceed to Nelson this week in order to attend the annual session of the Diocesan Synod.
