Sir George White last month declined the sword of honour which it was proposed to present to him at Aberdeen. He explained his reason in the following letter to the Aberdeen Journal : —“ The last incident in my career has been closed for two years and a half. It is now rapidly merging into a matter of history, and it is better to leave it to the fuller elucidation of that calmer and wiseraftertime, when Imperial interests may be duly weighed without confusing influences of personal considerations.” The “New York Herald” states that a number of elderly citizens of Cracow recently decided to found a bald-headed club, and requested the Archduke Charles Stephen to accept the honorary presidency, his Royal Highness being physically qualified for the position. % The Public Prosecutor got “ wind ”of the affair, and ordered proceedings to be taken against the writers of the letter for insulting a member of the Royal Family. The Ai-chduke, however, took a good humored view of the matter, and wrote stating that while he declined the honor, he did not consider the invitation an'insult.
