THE HOP MARKET.

Last Wednesday’s Po§t says:—The market for heps *a likely to bea firm one this season. The English crop has been -almost wholly destroyed by hailstorms, and a very trifling output is anticipated. The European crop was expected to be a fair one, and of excellent quality, provided the climatic conditions continued favorable. Unfrvorable reports came from America, and large contracts have been made there at high prices for new season’s deliveries. The prod action in Victoria shows a further decrease, the output, according to statistics recently compiled, being 2249 cwt for 1901-2, as against 2741 cwt the previous year, and 2884 cwt for 1899-1900. At one time New Zealand did an excellent business with Victoria and- New South Wales, but the Commonwealth tariff has practically killed the trade. The local production is now barely sufficient to meek domestic demands.
