Tiie- Gf eymouth Star says’:—“Mr Cederman of the Westland Foundry Hokitika, bbs had softie Buckets' of a local dredge placed in his hands for repair, lin effecting the repairs’ he is working.out an idea of his own which he expects will be a- decided improvement. He is making the lips of the buckets sharper and curved like a spoon, believing that the wash will be lifted with greater power and facility. A trial will be made shortly and if Mr Cederman’s idea works out in practice, it is his intention tso take out a paterit.;* Mr GLderman is a native Of Riwaka. The photographs of the Coronation Celebrations held in Motueka, taken by Mr W. E. Brown, photographer of considerable experience, have been greatly admired by all who have seen them. The series is well worth framing, and those who*-*wish to give their friends residing in other parts of the colony an idea of the character of the demonstrations locally cannot, tin better tban procure them.
At the last meeting of the Westport Borough Council Cr Larsen said Westport would soon be as had as Wellington —with rating up to 4s in the pound, Cr Larsen could also have quoted Blenheim where the ratepayers are staggering along under heavy taxes and it is no wonder, what with floods, etc., capitalists beat a hasty* retreat when they are asked to advance on freehold security in that locality. Even those who have money* out at interest there are anxious for some one else to “cany* the baby.”
The cablegrams from Home have in formed us that Misses Mary and May iSeddon were on a visit to Inverary Castle one of the Scottish seats of the Luke of Argyle. We wonder how lunny New Zealanders grasped the full significance of the „ piece of social gossip For a really great honor has to us been bestowed upon the fair New Zealanders. The Dukes of Argyle are the prouuest of proud Scots, and the present duke has the rare honor of being husband to a Queen’s daughter —-Princess Louise, sister of King Edward, so that the Misses Seddon have been the guests of royalty*. The Duke is better remembered as the Marquis of Lome, and it will be remembered that he and his Princess wife were for a period the vice regal rulers of Canada. The Duke and Duchess have since their Canadian experiences, always had a regard for over sea Britons. —Free Lance.
