RIWAKA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held last Friday evening. Messrs Drummond (.chairman pro tern), C > d\, Pattie,. James, and Fry. Before the business commenced, Mr .Jame-, speaking of the death,of their late Ch lirman, Mr D. Bate, thought they should follow the example of other public bodies, and adjourn for a short time out of respect to the deceased. On the moti >n of Mr C. Fry this was agreed t> and upon resuming, the the minutes of the previous meeting were read and i d ipted. The fallowing ace unts were passed for payment : Shaw 245, P. Fry .£l7 15s 6d, W. Duncan £6 8s 6d, Government Auditor 13s 4d. Brooklyn ci eek to her residence be repa’red. It was resolved that the dayman repair the worst portions of the road. Two applications were . received for the position of dayman, with horse am, cait- The tender of A. McLean, horse and d ay 8 ; per day, 2 horses and dray 10s was accepted ; the other tender, tlat.of P. Fry being 9s and 11s respectively. Jr James proposed,.seconded by.Mr Pitte, Ttiat the Secretary procure 35 six inch drain pipes for use on the Kaiteriteri road ; the balance of the money available to be spent in forming and gravelling nearTutbury’s. Carried. The Secretary was instructed to take the necessary steps to fill t.he vacancy on the Board, caused by the death of Bate, and on the motion of MiFry, seconded by Mi Pattie, That the notificat f ns.be published in Motueka Star only.
Mr McNab waited up >n the Board with reference to the wharf, a portion of which lie .stated was breaking away. He asked the Board to attend to the matter.
Resolved, on the motion of Mr Pattie, seconded by Mr Cook, That Messrs Cook, Diummond and Pattie meet at the wharf on Monday the 4th instant with power to act. Resolved on the motion of Mr Fry seconded by Mr James, That Messrs James and Fry inspect the Brooklyn main track and furnish the secretary with notes ; also that tenders be invited for carrying out the necessary .• e pj» ; rs. . , Mr Cook asked if there was any m >ney available for the Riwaka Valley road. Membeis thought that in view of the Board’s finances, any further expenditure was out of the question. The Board adjourned at eleven o’clock.
