A meeting of the Motueka Branch of ..the Farmers’"Union.will take place on Saturday evening next, when im - portant business will be brought up for consideration. , One question, of vital interest to the members, to be discussed is the combined decision of the auctioneers to increase the commission on sales from seven and a half to ten per cent. It is also requested that collectors bring in, their books and the cash collected, as returns of members names etc., are required by the Union. Mr H. A. Tarrant has been appoint ed Returning Officer for the election of member for the Motueka Riding of the Waimea County Council, in place of the late D. Bate. The services at St. Thomas’ Church on Sunday last were conducted by Mr H. A. Tarrant, lay reader, the Rev. Mr Johnston being indisposed. The worrying of sheep 1 y dogs is again prevalent in Motueka and we hear of several complaints about" the irresponsible canines which are let loose at eventide to wander withersoever they please. Their pleasure, generally, is to proceed to the outskirts of the Borough and keep the sheep in a state of perturbation throughout the silent watches of the night. Mr J. S. Wratt, of The Grange, is the owner of a flock of sheep which are continually harassed, and he notifies that in future poison will be laid on his property. We again the members* of the Sub Committee of the Coronation Celebrations, that a meeting will be held in the High School this evening. There is likely to be a contest for the election of a member for the Riwaka aiding of the Waimea County Council, rendered vacant ■ through-' the death of Mr Bate. The names of Messrs T. Pattie, A. Edwards, H. Everett, and J. A. Guy have been mentioned as likely candidates. As the position carries with it a seat on « ffie Motueka Wharf Board, a considerable amount of interest will be taken in the bye-electron. To-morrow Messrs W. Rout and Sons, Auctioneers, will sell at eleven o’clock, live stock, implements, 'furniture -etc, and at 1 p.m. drapery and clothing. We are informed that a number of members of the female section of the ; Motueka Gymnastic Club intend going over to Nelson-in oroer to be present at the practice to be held in All Saints j Institute on Friday evening.
