At the recent annual Parish meeting of St. Thomas’ Church it was resolved that a vote of thanks be accorded to those members of the choir, assisted by friends, who had been instrumental in providing the new organ for the Church, and particularly to Mrs Symes, who was the promoter of the movement. Mr J. B. Jordan was also appointed Sidesman with Messrs Edwards and Haycock. These particulars were accidently omitted from the repoit. The Westport News says, At the Harbour Board meeting on Monday Mr Colvin wished to move a motion requesting Mr Reeves, Mi McKenzie and himself to urge upon the Government the necessity for speedier action in the development of the State Coal Mine. Mr McKenzie, however, resented the motion, coming from the member for the Buller electorate, as an insinuation that he (Mr McKenzie) was not alive to the interests of his district, and declined to be included in the deputation to the Government. He justified his action also on the ground that a Bill would probably be put through the House this week giving the Government the necessary funds for the continuance of operations. Mr Colvin, finding that the motion had touched sensitive nerves of his political colleague, chivalrously withdrew it.
