The census of 1870 gave the whole population of Utah as 88,374 jof which ’ 80,000 were Mormons. The census of 1900 gives it a population of 276,740, of vvhich 220,000 are Mormons. In 1890 Mormonism had 144,000 adherents in the United States; in December, 1901, there were over 300,000. The of. about 40 soldiers killed in action, near Waitara, in the Maori war of 1860, and buried at Waitara, are to be removed to St. Mary’s churchyard, New Plymouth, tobe laid besider others there.
