THE OTHER “KITCHENERS."
The hard saying that the wife of an Archbishop is always “the Arch wife” is applicable in a modified sense to the relations of all well known men. With the exception of the Cecil and Chamberlain families, one hears little of the kith and kin of our other national stalwarts. Of three Kitchener brothers—Chevalier, Herbert and Walthe star of the second has grown so luminous as to outshine the other two. Major-General Chevalier Kitchener has done prominent work under his younger brother in South Africa, and it is said by those competent to judge that except in the matter of opportunity there is little difference between the two elder sons of the late Colonel Kitchener ; the youngest brother, Walter, is the only civilian of the family, and to him is entrusted the caae of the family estates in New Zealand. Lord Kitchener has, besides, oue sister, Mrs Parker, and one half-sister, Miss Kawara Kitchener. The un-com-mon name of the latter is the result of her birthplace. When the late Colonel Kitchener took Miss Green for his second wife the happy conple spent the early days of their union in New Zealand. It was there that Miss Kitchener was born, and her parents chose for her a name from the musical tongue of the Maoris.—To-dav.
