At last night’s meeting Mr A. I. Manoy stated that the Brass Band were willing to play bn Coronation Day for the sum of £5. He asked that the amount be voted as it would be the means of re-organising the band. The Committee voted the amount, those present being of the same opinion as Mr Manoj', namely that music would be a great help to the festivities on Thursday next. The programme of the Coronation festivities to be held at Upper Noutere on the 25th instant, which appears elsewhere, is an excellent one and will no doubt attract a large number of residents from Motueka and other districts. The Moutere people are a loyal section of the community, and in having tneir celebrations one day earlier do so in order to allow of the demonstrations to be held Nelson and Motueka to be attended by the residents in that neighborhood. In addition to the other events there is to be a grand display of fireworks for which purpose a substantial sum of been set-asjiie. On Wednesday last, Mr T. Goodman, baker, received a consignment of Californian flour which, we believe, is the first that has been landed in Motueka. Mr Goodman informs us the flour is of bright color, silken to the touch, and evidently of good quality. It is to be converted into the two and four pound Joaf for home consumption this week. ■ AYhdeti nrg^fUie^Peanelrud^Uoxnna^ - tion celebrations committee was held last evening, Mr J. S. Wratt in the chair. Mr Gilbert on behalf of the sub committee set up to arrange for providing the -children with refreshments, stated that three tenders had been received ; two local tenders were above the estimate and the third from Brightwater had been accepted. The total amount would probably come to £ls. A number of details in connection with the celebrations wen arrange!, amounts voted to the various sub-com-mittees etc. It was decided to charge an admission to the ground of sixpence for all over fifteen years of age. The committee is to meet again on Monday
evening. The annual meeting of the Salvation Army rescue work will be held in the Motueka Barracks on Monday evening, when we hope to see a good attendance of. those who sympathise with and appreciate the noble work carried on by the Army. Addresses will be delivered by the Ministers of religion in the district and also by Messrs G. W. Jenkins and Thomas Boyes; there will also be singing and recitations and as a large number of people have intimated their intention of being present, the gathering promises to be a most successful one. The chair will be taken by the Rev. T. Johnston.
The Swedish census shows the lowest death rate ever recorded by a civilised nation. During the last decade it has been 16.49 per 1000. Norway comes next, 16.9, then England, with 18.8: Thus the Scandinavians are now the healthiest European race in the world. Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy loosens the cough, relieves the lungs and opens the secretions. It counteracts any tendency of a cold to result in pneumonia. It is unequaled for bad colds. It always cures and cures quickly. A. Manoy sells it. ;3|lt Will Not Do to fool with a bad cold. No one can tell what the end will be. Pneumonia, catarrh, chronic bronchitis and consumption invariably result from a neglected cold. As a medicine for the cure of colds, coughs and influenza, nothing can compare with Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. It always cures and cures quickly: A. Manoy sells it.
