COMMERCIAL.
Messrs W. Rout and Sons report as follows : —One of the most successful sales ever held at Motueka was conducted by us on Wednesday last when the household furniture and effects, cattle, horses, farm implements, farm praduce, on account of Mr Richmond Hursthouse, were brought under the hammer. Prices all round were very satisfactoi-y. The sale lasted from 11 a.m. to 5 p m., and with the large attendance the scene was one very seldom witnessed in Motueka. We learn that Messrs W. Rout and Sons intend holding periodical sales in our district as soon as satisfactory arrangements can be made. Messrs Thompson Bros, and Co., produce merchants, Wellington, write to us as follows :—We have pleasure in being able to report a much better market for apples during the past week, choice large green cookers sold from 4s 6rl to 5s 3d, medium size 4s to 4s 3d, choice dessert apples ai-e also in demand from 7s to 10s, medium 5s 6d to 6s 9d. Pears are all selling well as very few are coming forward. Poultry 3s to 3s 3d per pair, ducks 4s to 4s 6d per pair. Fresh eggs 2s 3d per dozen, easier, preserved eggs Is 3d to Is 4d per dozen. Vegetables of all sorts wanted.
