THE CORONATION.
A meeting of the sub-comndittee of the Peace and Coronation Celebrations Committee was held on Tuesday evening, His Worship the Mayor. Mr J. S. Wratt in the chair. A draft programme, drawn up at a previous meeting, was read and fully discussed. It was ultimately decided to submit the following to the general committee : religions service, procession to Trewavas’ corner and thence to Staples’ paddoek, where patriotic speeches are to be delivered, luncheon, military and children’s sports, tea. In the evening, open air conceit and speeches, after which a display of fireworks. It was agreed that Messrs Gilbert, MrFarlane and Everett be a sub-com-mittee to obtain details as to refreshments, etc., that Mr Staples be asked to grant them the use of one of his paddocks ; in the event of bad weather the cricket ground to be secured ; that the number of speakers be limited to four, namely Messrs Hursthouse, Everett, Rankin and Harris f that Mr Jenkins be appointed marshall with power to appoint- assistants ; that the Secretary’s action in ordering medals for distribution be confirmed ; that a committee of ladies be formed to arrange for attaching ribbons to the medals and distribution of same ; that the children’s sports committee be Messrs J. H. Rankin, A. I. Manoy, McFarlane, and Jackson ; that admission ~to the ground be free to children up to sixteen years, adults sixpence ; that Messrs Boyes and Chapman be gatekeepers and that the officer commanding the local Mounted Rifles be asked to allow members of the corps to patrol the boundaries ; that Messi’S Wilkes and Gilbert act as a committee of management for the open air concert ; that Mrs Deck, and Messrs Greensill and R. Rankin (together with Dr Adams, if able to help) be tl e bicycle and torchlight procession committee ; that the lighting and decoration committee be Messrs Manoy, H. Rankin, McFarlane, and the Secretary, The above programme was submitted to the general committee on Wedne:dav evening when, after discussion, was adopted. The question of charging for admission to the ground was discussed at lnngth and it was decided to hold the matter in abeyance pending a reply from the Council < e additional grant.
