MARKETS IN SOUTH AFRICA.

The Palmerston Correspondent to the Kew Zealand Times says :—Referring to the opportunity offered producers iby the South African market, a member of the Farmers’ Union stated at a meeting of the committee of the local branch the other day that there would be a handsome profit from shipping potatoes to that market. He had chartered a scow on his own account some time ago, and shipped a cargo of pr oduce from Foxton to West Australia with most satisfactory results. Mr Hodder questioned whether they had a surplus in the district which would make up a shipment. At the present price of oats, he hardly thought any farmer would care to ship ‘‘on spec.”" Other members agreed with Mr Hodder, and nothing was done in the matter.
