A full report of the School Committee meeting, held last night, is crowded out of this issue. ,We regret to chronicle the death of MY William Bain Anderson, which took place at his residence, River Yiew, Riwaka., at two o’clock this morning. The late Mr Anderson had been ailing for some time, and his demise was not altogether unexpected. The deceased resided in Riwaka during the past 'six years employing himself in the cultivation of an extensive orchard and gaining the respect of all classes of the community. Before coming to this district Mr Anderson carried on business at Gore, in the Southland district. The deceased was a man of superior attainments, kindhearted withal, and although holding aloof from local and colonial politics, kept himself well informed as to what was transpiring around him. To the widow of the late Mr Anderson, the sympathies of friends and the public will be extended in the hour of beveavement. The funeral cortege will leave River Yiew, Riwaka. for the Riwaka Cemetery at two oclock tomorrow, Wednesday, afternoon. Mr C. G. M. Boyce, lately of Denniston, and a native of Motueka, has been appointed head master of the Charleston public school. Mr Boyce’s friends will be pleased to hear that the appointment carries with it substantial promotion in the service of the Nelson Education Board. It was mentioned by the Chairman at last night’s meeting of the School Committee that the Riwaka Committee had decided to close their schools during the whole of the week. The Motueka Committee, having in view the fact that so many holidays were given during fruit and hop picking, and with no feelings of disloyalty, agreed to close the schools on Thursday and Friday. We trust IVIr Maginnity will have a successful professional career. Mr J. A. Chisholm, optician and jeweller, of Nelson, encouraged by the hearty support accorded during his last visit, and in response to invitation will be in Motueka from Tuesday the 17th, to the 20th instant, Doth days inclusive, As a result of the former visit, and of his ability to furnish spectacles of the right focus, rendering their use a pleasure and not a burden and tax upon the eyes, Mr Chisholm has been the recipient of most satisfactory testimonials.
