CANTERBURY MARKETS. Christchurch; May 28. The following are current prices paid to farmers, f.0.b., Lyttelton, and free of commission, except where otherwise specified : r Wheat : Hunter’s,, Pearl and Tuscan, 3s 9d at country stations. Oats. —Long feed, 2s 3d short feed oats, 2s. 3d to 2s 4d ; milling Canadians 2s 6d at country stations. Barley (new)—3s to 3s 3d at country stations. Peas : Partridge, 3s to 3s 6d ; Blue Prussians 5s 6d to 5s 9d at country stations. Flour (millers’ quotations): Roller .£lO 10s. Pollard : <£s 10s ton. Bran : £5 Oatmeal : <£ls f.o.b. Oatsbeaf chaff : 65s to 70s at country stations. Onions : <£s Os at country stations. . Potatoes : Beauty of Hebron and kidneys for forward delivery, 50s to 555, derwents 60s to 65s at country .stations. Grass Seed —Ryegrass, prime heavy town dressed 4s 3d to 4s 6d, cocksfoot 3|d to 3fd, ryegrass, Italian, town dressed 4s 6d. Dairy Produce ; Cheese, factory 4|d to sd, dairy 4d ; butter, factory local, lid, North Island lid, dairyßd to 9d, salt (in boxes) 8d ; bacon, hams, 5d to 6id ; factory bacon and hams, id higher, fo.b.
STOCK SALES. Following is a report of the weekly stock sale at Addington :—- Christchurch, May 28.
At Addington 175 fat cattle, mostly heavy weights, were yarded. Prices were the same as last week, 19s and 245. Prime bullocks,<£l2 to £l3 12s 6d, good steers <£B 5 to £lO 15s, lighter £6 to £B, heifers £5 15s to £8 7s 6-1, cows £5 5s to £9. Fat sheep —About 5000, mostly ewes, with a few lines of good quality wethers. Competition was keen throughout, and anything fit to freeze rose Is per head. Freezing wethers 16s 3d to 19s 6d, heavy weights 19s lld to 20s sd, light and unfinished 14s to 16s 3s, crossbred ewes best 12s t > 17s 6d, medium 11s to 12s, inferior 8s to 10s. Most of the best ewes were taken for export. Fat iambs —About 2000, including many inferior. The-e was .good competition for well finished lots. Freezers 11s 4d to 13s 6d, tegs 13s lid to 14s 4«1, unfinished 7s 3d to 10s 6d. Store sheep. . 5500 including some good lines of wethers. Competition for all sorts irregular, and buyers were not keen. This made matters easier. Several lines were passed forward. Wethers 10s 9d to 12s 10d,. backward 8s to 9s, good sound ewes 9s 4d to 9s fid, aged sorts 4s, good lambs 6s 5d to 8s 7d and down to 2s for culls.
Pigs. About 400 including a fair entry of fats. Stores were poorly represented. Baeoners 33s to 45s up to 52s 6d for extra heavy, porke*s 20s to 30s, stores 14s to 20s, smaller 5s t > 12s. Dunedin, May 28.
At Burnside 28,7 fat cattle were yarded. Theyrices ruling were slightly easier, Be.st bullocks, £9 to £lO 12s 6d ; medium, £7 5s to £8 15s ; best cows and heifers, £7 to £7 15s ; medium, £5 5s to £5 17s 6d : old cows, £3 15s to £5 10s.
Fat sheep-2638 penned. Prices ratline towards the close were rather bet+er than last week. Best wethers, 15s 6 1 to 17s 6d ;; axtra, 18s 9d ; medium, 13s to 15s 6d : best ewee, 15s to 16s ; medium, 10s to 14s; o vl , 8s to 9s 6d. - • V'. , '
Lambs—6,4sc Best lambs, 1 Is to 12s 6 1 ; medium, 9s 6d to 10s 9d.
Pigs- 191. . /.Except porkers and baeoners they, weie almost unsaleable. .Suckers, 2s 6d to 5s fid ; slips, 7s to 11s ; stores,. 12s to 16s; porkers, 20s to 34s ; baeoners, 36s to 50s. ' Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Go. (in conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams), report that at their sale at Johnsonville, near Wellington on Friday last as follows . —We had a .rather shorter supply of cattle yarded than, usual, consisting partly of prime bullocks some larger unfinished sorts, and a few pens of small bullocks of prime: quality. Bidding was fairly brisk, and beef made 225, with an occasional pen at 23s per 1001 - We quote—Best bullocks, L 9 to LlO 5s ; others, L 8 12s 6d to L 8 15s, smaller bullocks L77s6d to LB. Sheep were ■unaltered in prices. Prime heavy ewes were, passed in at 1.35, good ewes made 11s 7d to 12s, forward ewes 9s to 9s id, .vethers 12s 9d, forward wethers 10s 6d, store ewes 6s 7d to Bs, lambs 8s to 9s, small baeoners LI 18s, porkers 28s to 295.
