A billiard-room at an Hotel at TCnr--1 umburra, Melbourne, was wrecked by an explosion of acetylene gas, and four were seriously iujured, and a number slightly. One man’s nose was blown off. A Darling Downs farmer has recently discovered that by planting onions and potatoes in the same field in alternate rows the onions become so strong that they bring tears to the . “ eyes” of the potatoes in such quantities that the roots are kept moist and a big crop is raised in spite of drought. At the Melbourne Supreme Court last week a juror did not answer when called, and, although it was shown that he was dead, the Judge levied a fine of £2 2s. Out of 149 returned soldiers who applied for positions in the Victorian Foot Police only 22 succeeded in passing the tests of the Board of Examiners. It is said that the New South Wales Premier contemplates entertaining the poor on Coronation Day in the manner in which King Edward is to entertain the London poor.
